As we continue to celebrate National Bourbon Month… here’s a little gem that “Trader Vic” included in his 1947 cocktail guide. Most likely named in honor of the Kentucky Derby, this drink perfectly harmonizes the deep flavors of the bourbon with the tanginess of the triple sec and lime juice. Choose a strong full-flavored bourbon like Wild Turkey 101 to really give the drink an edge.
The Derby Cocktail:
- 2 Parts Wild Turkey 101 Bourbon
- 1 Part Sweet Vermouth
- 1 Part Cointreau/Triple Sec
- 1 Part Fresh Lime Juice
- 1/2 tsp Agave Nectar
Shake with ice and strain into a cocktail glass, garnish with lime wedge or rind.
THE SORROWS OF GIN
